In a tragic event in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, a van carrying eight individuals plunged into a roadside well, resulting in the deaths of five people, as confirmed by local officials.
According to a police spokesperson, three passengers managed to swim to safety after the vehicle fell into the well. The incident occurred near Sathankulam while the group was en route to a church event in Coimbatore.
The driver reportedly lost control of the van near Mirankulam village, leading to the unfortunate accident. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and announced a compensation package. An official statement revealed that the families of the victims would receive a compensation of three lakh rupees each.
